Black is the new green at West Salem High School.

National media outlets were all abuzz about the school's new black turf that was just unveiled last week.  It's been dubbed "The Black Hole".

The reason the school installed the black turf, according to published reports, is because it cost $150,000 less than green.  The total cost, which was totally paid for through fundraising, was $300,000.

The black turf wasn't lucky though as South Medford won the first game on black turf 24-9, but maybe no one will notice because the result occurred in The Black Hole.
