No Football in 2012 for Oregon School For the Deaf

The 140th anniversary of the Oregon School for the Deaf will not include football.

Steve Duin of The Oregonian reports that the school has cancelled its 8-man season due to a lack of players.  The season was cancelled after the team only had seven players, one of which was a girl, according to Duin's story.

South Albany Hires Dennis Erickson's Son as New Head Football Coach

Bryce Erickson, son of former college and NFL coach Dennis Erickson, has been hired as the new head football coach at South Albany.

This will be the younger Erickson's first head coaching job after serving as the school's weight room instructor and an assistant last season.

Erickson takes over for Tony Matta, who is South Albany's new athletic coordinator.

Last season, South Albany was winless in nine regular season games.

2011 Oregon High School Football Schedules

Dates and schedules for the 2011 Oregon high school football season have been released.

Practice begins August 22nd with the first games to be played during the Labor Day weekend starting September 1st.

This year the playoffs will begin on November 11th and 12th with the 6A championship game set for December 10th.  The 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A title games will be played December 3rd.

Usually summer high school football all-star games are a little boring because of the lack of offense.

That wasn't the case with the 2011 version of the Les Schwab Bowl.

The North team stormed back from a 24-point deficit to defeat the season 42-38.  Lincoln High quarterback Peter Williams, who will attend college at MIT, led the charge by completing 25 of 36 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns.

The North won the game when Aloha's John Shaffer scored on a six-yard run with just 22 seconds left.

Oregon City HS Names New Head Coach

40-year old Kevin Strasser has had a coaching career that has taken him from the high school level right-up to the pros in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos...now he's back in high school.

Strasser has been named the new head football coach at Oregon City.  Strasser takes over for Dane Iverson, who didn't have a winning season in seven years.

Iverson's record was 22-49.

Rosters Announced for Oregon's Les Schwab Bowl All-Star Football Game

Organizers of the 64th annual Les Schwab Bowl North-South All-Star Football Game that pits the best 6A/5A senior all-stars against each other have announced rosters for this year's game that will be played June 25th at Hillsboro Stadium in Hillsboro.

Chris Casey of Aloha is the coach of the North team, while Frank Geske of Marist will lead the South squad.

Welcome to our new look for the 2010 Oregon high school football season!

With the first day of practice beginning August 23rd, I wanted to take the time to thank all of my readers, who have made this blog successful over the past three years.  I have bigger-and-better things planned this year with more original content.

Mike Doty Steps Down as Canby Football Coach

Mike Doty has ended his 19-year career as the head football coach at Canby.

The Canby Herald reports that Doty finishes with a career record of 144-66 with four trips to the state semifinals.
